We went to this doughnut shop in Portland and they have some really good doughnuts! Gary recorded a show on the Food Channel a few weeks ago that was about places to eat while in Portland. Voodoo Doughnut Shop was one of them. The first time we went Gary got a Voodoo doughnut which is in the shape of a voodoo doll w/ chocolate icing and a pretzel stick stuck in the heart. It is filled w/ raspberry filling for the blood effect. I got what was called Ole Dirty Bastard which was a doughnut topped w/ crushed Oreo's drizzled w/ peanut butter. It was wonderful. We told Caitlin about them and ended up going back Sunday night to get some for her to share w/ the girls in her room. She wasn't allowed to leave the hotel unless it was w/ the whole squad. The second time we got more of the Ole Dirty, one topped w/ Cocoa Puffs, and Bavarian Creme. It is a very interesting business. It is open 24 hrs. 7 days a week and is only big enough for about 6 people to fit inside the door, place your order and walk out the door. Each time we went we stood in line so they are quite popular. You can even get married at the store. On the back of the brochure it lists the different types of wedding packages they offer.
On Friday we rented a car and drove to Spirit Mountain Casino. It was only 54 miles from Portland but it took us an hour and half to get there. We weren't having very much luck and was thinking it was time to leave when Gary decided to put in his last $5 he was going to spend and ending up getting a Royal Flush on a video poker machine! We were so excited. It is the second time we have ever gotten this hand on a video poker machine. One of these times we might actually get one at the tables were we could win more money but we won't complain about our winnings thus far.
The cheer competition was interesting and exciting. I really like to watch the level 4, 5, & 6 all stars. The tumbling is amazing and the guys make it look so effortless. Caitlin took first place w/ her stunt group that performed on Friday - they only competed againest one other group but that is okay. Her squad took 3rd out of 5. Sunday's performance did not go well and we think if they could have completed the routine flawlessly they would have taken 2nd. She enjoyed the trip though and is looking forward to her last competition this weekend. We still don't understand how we compete in nationals before we compete in state but what do we know? This Saturday is the grand finale of her cheer career. It is hard to believe that this sport that has consumed our lives for the last 5 years is coming to a close. Caitlin mentioned that one of her routines is on youtube for any of you interested in watching. I am sure it is under Rocky Mtn. Cheer Meridian but I haven't actually looked for it yet.
